QUALITY CHILDCARE

An Attentive Approach to Your Child’s Learning

Our friendly children's nursery staff can manage a wide range of behaviour, ensuring every child's welfare and development. Children benefit most when adults adopt a consistent and positive approach to the management of their behaviour.

By establishing clear boundaries according to the level of understanding, children become aware of the routines and begin to understand what is expected of them.

Children have a lot to learn about behaving and coping with very different environments in their first five years. The children in our nurseries are at varying stages of development.
Our staff are sensitive to the individual needs of each child, their cultural and family backgrounds, and their developmental stage of learning.

Our Nursery Manager and team have a responsibility to ensure that:

  • The physical environment is safe, well organised and stimulating.
  • All activities, resources and equipment are appropriate for the children's ages and stages of development.
  • When appropriate, children are given opportunities to become involved in their own learning environment including the setting of rules and boundaries.
  • Each nursery offers an organised environment that provides plenty of well-planned and age appropriate activities.
  • When they are actively included in positive play with adults, children are less likely to adopt inappropriate behaviour.
  • Once expectations have been made clear, children receive a consistent approach from the staff.

Children develop and progress best in an environment in which:

  • They know what is expected of them and they are free to learn and play in an organised way where good behaviour is positively encouraged.
  • Opportunities for inappropriate behaviour are minimised.

Early years foundation stage (EYFS)

  • The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) was introduced into our children's nurseries in September 2008.
  • The EYFS is Statutory Framework for the Early Years which sets the standards for welfare, care learning and development for children from birth to five years.
  • It gives all professionals a set of common principles and commitments to deliver quality early education and childcare experiences to all children.
  • For additional information, please click on the above link to the EYFS.
  • At A’s nursery we ensure that every child is given the opportunity to learn through high quality play experiences.
  • Play is vital for children. It helps them to understand the world around them and to develop socially and emotionally. It is through play that our children learn, develop at their own pace and have fun with adults who understand, support and care about them.
  • We want the children we care for to feel secure, not pushed or pressured, and to have the confidence to deal with whatever life brings.
  • The Government states that parents must receive written progress reports for their child when they reach the age of two and again at five.
  • At A’s nursery, your child’s key person will give you a progress report every 10 to 12 weeks as part of your child's Incredible Learning Journal, because we know just how important it is for there to be regular, written feedback to let you know how your child is getting on.

Food and nutrition

Offering a varied diet encourages children to experience and enjoy new flavours and textures, giving them the confidence they need to try new things. A big part of teaching children about the world around them involves planting and harvesting fruits, vegetables and herbs and letting children see the lifecycle in action.

We support this learning by including seasonal produce in our menus, which often means that children can eat the food they have grown and harvested themselves; this also provides them with a healthy, nutritional and varied balance to the food they eat.

We continue to change our menus to make sure we are offering food that children enjoy. Our nursery menus are developed by a group of our ‘champion cooks’- a select team of our group’s cooks. These menus are then sent to an external dietician to make sure we are offering the best nutritional menu that we can, whilst harnessing the goodness of seasonal produce.

We have a commercial production kitchen on site which is fully equipped to produce and deliver healthy meals.
